Bioidentical hormones, also known as natural hormone therapy, is a treatment option used to replace or supplement hormones that a person’s body isn’t producing in sufficient amounts. Though bioidentical hormones are derived from plant-based sources, such as soy and wild yams, they have the same molecular structure as naturally produced hormones.
It should be noted that everyone’s body responds differently to bioidentical hormone treatments. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another. Here are some of the risks associated with bioidentical hormones:
Inaccurate dosing - If a patient doesn't receive the right dosage of bioidentical hormones, then it can lead to an imbalance in their hormone levels which can cause further health issues down the line. It is essential for a patient to get tested regularly by their doctor so that their hormone levels can be monitored and adjusted accordingly if necessary.
Unknown long-term risks - Due to limited research on the long-term use of bioidentical hormones, little is known about how safe they might be when taken over an extended period of time or in combination with other medications and treatments. For this reason, it's best for patients to only take these types of hormones under the close supervision of their doctor and only when absolutely necessary.
At Hormone Treatment Center we understand that deciding whether or not to undergo natural hormone therapy is a big decision and we want all our patients to feel informed and comfortable with their choice. That's why we offer personalized care plans tailored to fit each individual's needs while keeping safety as our top priority!
